I have a 2005 6.0, and love it. Just returned from 15,000 roundtrip to Alaska. Pulling a SunnyBrook 31 BWFS and no problems except with the brakes on the 5th wheel. Truck preformed just fine. I did replace the EGR cooler and oil cooler at 95,000 miles. I think this truck is one of the best I have ever owned. Love driving it.
It is true that the market is depressed on the 6.0 powered trucks but they can be a good deal. Regular maintance is a must, use Motorcraft filters and Synthetic oil, (I use Rotella T-6). Change coolant regularly and enjoy your ride

By 2005 Ford/Navistar had made updates to the engine and the Failure rate was much lower. The Billion dollars, were for the many crate engines used to replace the early 6.0's, 2003 and early 2004. We had some friends that had an engine replacement on theirs.
I wish someone would have told that to my 06 6.0...
