I installed a set on my 01 Dodge 2500 They replaced the existing bump stops on the frame and plates were installed on the axle with U bolts for them to contact. I did them without jacking the truck and they worked quite well. Most of the time they didn't make contact without the trailer hooked up and I only noticed them when hitting a good size bump when empty. Never having had air bags, I couldn't say how they compare loaded.
