Electricity will always take the path of least resistance. Keep your ground as close to your work area as you can and you'll be fine. I've welded on many vehicles (race, rock crawlers, daily drivers...) and never even so much as thought about the battery or electronics. Is it possible to fry them? Sure. Is it likely, not very.
