Question on Michelin LTX M/S2

I need to replace the tires on my 2010 Toyota Sequoia- I realized in the fall that the alignment has been out on the SUV, and worn prematurely the tires.

From reviewing here all the many discussions on tires, I am thinking of the Michelin LTX M/S2 to tow my HTT- approx 5,500lbs on road. When I check online for my size, I see P275/55/20 for that model, I thought when a tire starts with "P" it refers to passenger. They have many tires that start with LT, but unfortunately not in my size.

Anyone know if the LTX M/S2 P275/55/20 are just as good? if not, any other recommendations? I do have snow tires, so really looking for a good tire for towing in summer.

thanks in advance for replies.

  • I will probably be the only one with this opinion, but I hate mine. I think these tires are square. 3 of the set I had would not balance and had to be replaced under warranty. I can't wait for them to wear out so I can get something else.
  • You could go with the "P" rating at maximum inflation pulling that trailer. Or, I would choose a tire with an "XL" rating and run those at maximum inflation while towing.

If the SUV is more of a grocery getter than tow vehicle that is what I would do.
  • The load rating on tires for the Sequoia probably doesn't warrant the LT rating. Load range B or C compared to D or E.
I have the LTX M/S on my Sierra and they are far superior to the OEM Bridgestones. Go farther in 2WD with the Michelins than I could in 4WD in the snow( when we get some) with the Bridgestones. Good all round tire , but I think my fuel economy took a nosedive because of the more aggressive tread pattern.

  • I've purchased 2 sets since October. 1st is 17" P rating as its on wifes 1/2 ton Chevy Truck. 2nd set is 16" LT as its on my 2500 truck that does all of the heavy lifting. Nice and quiet on both trucks. Good traction in the snow and really nice in heavy rain when compared to the Goodyear Wrangler AT that came on wifes 1/2 ton truck and hydroplaned almost from day 1. Handling is the same on both trucks and in fact made the 1/2 ton stick to the road better and more predictiable. Less tire side flex in corners. My opinion is stay with OEM size. I'm very happy with both my LTXM/S2 Randu
