Question on Truck Campers

Hi,

We've had a travel trailer for about 10 years and are now considering downsizing as the kids leave home.

We have a 2015 F350 Diesel pickup and are considering getting a camper.

My wife is leaning towards a B class but I am not keen on the idea as we have a perfectly serviceable truck.

After digging around I found out that my wife worry is not being able to get from the camper into the truck cabin and be able to drive off. I understand that this seems strange after having a travel trailer for so many years :-)

We heard that some truck campers have a window at the front that would allow you to slip from the camper through the rear sliding window into the truck in an emergency.

Question: is this in fact the case?

If so then which truck campers would have this?

Thanks!

  • Unless you are tiny and very flexible, the cab windows don't help. I think that if you want to move to the front seat, you probably should try a A, B, or C.
  • Just to emphasize that this would be for emergencies only... for example you're parked in a car park and wanted to leave but felt very unsafe to exit the camper to get into the truck.
  • Most do but you had better be very flexible and thin to do it. Both of mine have / had windows and I run a boot between the truck sliding window and the camper but I've never attempted to use it ti get into the truck.

If I bought another, I'd opt out of the window entirely, just another leak point.
  • Many truck campers have a small window in the front wall that aligns with the truck rear window. Sometimes it can be used for rear visibility but most are too small for most adults to pass through. The ones that do have a large enough window require a flexible boot joining the truck cab with the camper and some people use this feature for their pets (as far as I know). I would be curious to find out if there are any people here who actually go back and forth ? Your travel trailer didn't allow it but I can understand the major feature of almost all Class As, Bs, & Cs that do allow it. Like everything in life, there are always pros and cons. The nicer Class Bs are quite expensive if comparably equipped as a good truck camper.
  • If you were under attack wouldn’t the bad guys/gals figure out what you were trying to do?
