At least my GMC doesn't have the DEF filler next to the fuel tank filler. It's up in the engine compartment and harder than heck to fill without making a little, if not big, mess. All in all, better than being beside the fuel filler neck thought.
I've never made a mess, never spilled one into the other...The filler neck for the DEF in the RAM is very small, you have to unscrew the cap and insert fill pump, ( I use truck stop), pump stops pumping when tank is full...never had a spill....You screw the cap back on the DEF filler neck and there you go..., no runs, no drips, no errors.....so easy a caveman could do it. Same with fuel fill, I use either the Big Rigs pump or the smaller one, (neither would fit into the DEF fill neck...and DEF lid is on when fuel filling)....Plenty of room in that compartment..I know, I own the truck and have had the actual, true experience.
I've had my truck over 18 months now, with 19,800 trouble free miles. I've had zero issues and no spills or drips filling either my fuel tank or my DEF tank. Fact, not "hear say"......
Oh, and both are very easy to fill, at least that's been my real life experience thus far
