Anyone seen Butch50 ?????
LOL, these vehicle threads can sometimes (OK most of the time :B ) go south in a hurry. Way, I mean way too much bashing and blind brand loyalty.
Butch, as far as I know the 2013's should be good. Sure, there have been some problems noted by earlier posters, but it does seem that the 6.7L diesel has been about 97 percent good to go for most all owners.
Mind you, it would certainly be bad to find yourself in the other 3 percent though.
That said, I believe the high pressure fuel pump, so problematic in Ricatic's and some other vehicles, is now being made in the Czech Republic, compared to the original CP 4.2 pump being made by Bosch in Germany. Supposedly the Czech version, also a Bosch pump, is an improved, more reliable pump.
Here's to hoping for no cancelled Czech's. :B
The stock exhaust brake on mine works fine. Towed some heavy trailers out to Washington state from North Dakota on two trips last fall with mine. Going down Homestake pass at Butte on I-90 and again at Lookout pass on the Idaho/Montana border I-90 it handled the descents quite nicely. Mind you, I didn't start out going downhill too fast, as from reading it seems the Ford works the best when starting descents at speeds below 55 MPH. So I started both at about 50 MPH, and enjoyed the ride down. Kind of neat watching the truck work its way downhill, motor revving as gears dropped, but holding speed down very nicely. No braking on my part, and no white knuckles.
In truth, I would be more concerned with the quality of diesel fuel available to us here in the US of A than I would be with which of the big three pickup diesels one should own. No mechanic here, although I do admit I could mess anything up in a hurry.:B But just wondering if the very dry fuel we have here in the US is not in some way responsible for some of the mechanical problems these newer model trucks are suffering.
Anyway, there's my short synopsis. I'd go for the Ford again, mine has certainly performed well and been thus far trouble free at 23,000 miles of use.
