The Mad Norsky,
I'm still here and reading. I did respond to brholt's post about the 6.2 Ford gasser, as that is what I presently have. The main reason I was starting to look at a diesel again is I'm thinking about gettin a Jeep to tow behind my truck with the TC that I haul right now. I know the 6.2 well tow the Jeep also it might just be slower on the hills than I want to go. If I was just staying with the camper and maybe pull my little flatbed trailer with my ATV or my Harley trike once in a while the 6.2 well do this with no problem. In fact before my TC I was pulling an AF 5er that weighed 12K. The truck did fine with it but I slowed down on the hills but still made them over at no slower than 40MPH. I only have 25,000 miles on my truck and it is a 2011 and 11,000 miles of that was just put on with the Alaska trip.
I'm very familiar wirh both Lookout and Homestake. I use to live in NW Montana and any time we went anywhere we either went over Lookout or Homestake. I pulled Homestake going to Alaska with my boat behind us sp I was right at 15,000# GW and I ran up from the east side at about 50MPH, now I had it wound up some but not all that much, I was running right at 4000RPM. I manually shifted it down then backed out of it and just let it run up the hill. If I hadn't manually shifted it down it would speed up and shift then slow down and start the cycle again which I don't like. When we lived in Kalispell we traveled to Spokane, WA and went over Lookout many, mnay times. I also use to live in CO for 27 years and use to run all of the passes there over the years with gassers with TV or 5th wheel trailers.
ON EDIT:I sure didn't mean for this to get into a ****ing contest that is the reason I only asked about the Fords as that is the only one I was interested in at this time. I have had all 3 brands and each with a diesel so very familiar with all of them. It is just the last 2 I owned were a 2006 Dodge 3500 and at the same time a 2006 Ford F550 so it has been a while and there have been a lot of changes to them since them.
TO MODERATOR: If it continues with the bashing would you please close this thread as I never wanted it to be this.
Thanks to all that gave constructive posts and info.
