Questions/suggestions for my new F350 w 6.7

Picked up our new F350 2 weeks ago and never was in the "new" body style at all, so this was a BRAND new experience to say the least. Been very busy w/ things so I haven't even had a chance to read the owners manual yet. So far this thing rocks! Can't wait till spring to put in a bigger fuel tank. Seems like back seat has more leg room than my old '03 did.

So for a couple things I've noticed:
1. Change in trans hump. Not flat like the '03. How do you keep a box of baby wipes and kleenex from falling into foot areas on either side?

2. It was an off the lot purchase and has pretty much everything I wanted. Some of the options are:
a). Snowplow prep pkg.
b). FX Off Road pkg.
c). Trailer tow pkg
d). 11,500 GVW

3. Didn't come w/ a camper package. What does that incl? More leafs in rear? Rear sway bar? Will I need to add extra leaf or 2 for our 5er (pin of 2,000)?

4. Seems like there is less room for front middle passenger than the '03.

5. Is changing the oil a pain? Same with fuel filters?

6. Anything I really need to be on the lookout for? I know kinda stupid question.

7. Came w/ chrome tube steps which are getting replaced w/ full running boards. Will be selling the steps.

8. MPG's ave 13 and that was even driving it home 140 miles on the interstate. Will this go up as it gets broke in?

I probly have more questions, but they escape me at the moment.

Thanks in advance folks. BTW, have a grin that just won't go away!!

Easy. Drain plug is plastic and removes with 3/8" ratchet. Need large drain pan for the 13.2 quarts of oil. Oil filter is screw on.
Drain your water separator at each oil change, 60 second task.

My 2011 6.7 gives me about 19 mpg on highway and about 14.8 while towing 14,000# 5er. (drops to 10.4 mpg towing in the mountains of WV)
Keep your foot OUT of the throttle and speed down and your mileage will be better. If you are engaging the turbo and feeling the "power" sensation, you will be paying at the pump. Your choice. This truck has tons of available power. If you have to prove how much power it has to yourself every time you take off, your mpg will suffer. Remember you are moving 8000 pounds of dead weight every time you start off from a dead stop. Light throttle is your friend for better mpg.

Change your TWO fuel filters at 22,500 miles. YouTube video will assist you. Very easy job and will save you about $100 to do it yourself.

Enjoy your new Ford. We really like ours.

  • I would suggest that your query would be better answered on a ford specific forum such as the 6.7 diesel forum at ford-trucks.com or thedieselstop

I can't help you with all your questions but I'll try and answer what I can. I have never changed the oil but it looks very easy. There are videos on Youtube showing how. I have a 2013 and I get good mileage. High teens on the highway not towing and around 10-11 mpg towing an 11,000 lb. 5th wheel. The mileage hasn't changed much since new. Hopefully yours will. I have a 250 with the camper package. Gives you heavier springs and rear stabilizer.
I would suggest you use a diesel fuel additive. I have been using the Ford additive since new.
The 6.7 pulls like a freight train. You'll be very pleased.
    Congrats on the new truck.
