That was pretty much my original plan, one problem I realized is the rack isn't exactly flat, there's 1" gap between the box and the rack (or 1/2" on each side of the box resting on the high spot in the center of the rack framing).

So I'm a bit concerned bolts through the bottom may work loose from all the road bouncing. I may loosen the bolts holding the carrier together to see if I can pull it together a bit more square to the box, but I suspect that won't do much.
