Most RV radios are 12Vdc. The 12Vdc lights and equipment are fed from the battery and wouldn't have power to them interrupted by plugging the RV into 120Vac shore power. Is the battery healthy?
It is likely that the 12Vdc voltage when not plugged in is dropping low enough where the radio is shutting down completely. Most radios only go into a standby mode when you hit the power off button so all settings are retained.
