The rear coils ride better and are plenty heavy duty. The 1500s are softer sprung than my 2500 was for obvious reasons, but your line of thought is a decade out of date.
I used to tow with Suburbans and then had a Ford Excursion. As the Excursion go to be rather long in tooth and was developing various problems, I was concerned about going to a 2500 HD pickup because every one I had driven to date had a really harsh ride when not loaded or carrying a light load. Then I tried a new 2015 Ram 2500. I bought it and absolutely love it. It handles my 10,000# RV trailer just fine and sits absolutely level when hitched with my equalizing hitch. I don't see any performance or capacity problems with the coil springs.
