Ram 1500 with 3.0 diesel

Continuing my research for a possible new(er) TV.

Anyone own/towing with the Ram 1500 with the 3.0 diesel? Might be to small for my towing needs, but something to think about.

Thanks,

  • I have now owned my ED for a year and 26K miles. 6,500 of which has been towing. This truck has been the best truck I've ever owned. Power I compare it to my old 01' 7.3 powerstroke. You won't win any drag races but its got the torque to chug up any hill with out shifting all over the place like a gasser. Seems the happiest at 2K rpm's in 7th gear towing.

Suspension and tires seem to be its only down fall. Tires are super light 2-ply and really should be replaced with a properly rated tire for towing anything. Even though this truck rides like a Cadillac empty. Loaded it still rides smooth but squats quite a bit. I have air bags waiting to be installed.

I've towed our 25' travel trailer from western WI to Spokane, WA. Ran I94 on the way out then up through Glacier and I90 on the way back. There was only one pass that the truck struggled with. The rest with the cruise set at 65-70 I passed near everything on the hills at 2K rpm's in 7th gear. Especially those ECO BOOST'S! They'd pass me on the flats and i'd pass them on the hills. Eventually they took there proper place behind the ED!
