Ram 1500 with 3.0 diesel

I certainly agree about choosing the Ecoboost over the 5.0 or 5.4 gas V8's. Turbos are great :)

:) Hi, horsepower is basically torque times RPM. If your big rig could turn 6,000 RPM, it would probably be double or even triple the horse power. Torque and horsepower both play a part in towing. It's mostly the torque of my Ecoboost that makes it out pull my 5.4L Lincoln when towing. My Ecoboost has 65 more horsepower and 65 lbs. more torque than my Lincoln. The turbo's also maintain my horsepower in high altitudes; This is the main reason for choosing the Ecoboost over the 5.0 V-8.

:) Hi, I have read this post several times and the answer is: The F-150 will drag down to a complete stop shortly after the beginning of the (up) hill. Now do this same test using the Ecodiesel, since this thread is about "Ram 1500 with 3.0 diesel".


Now gear the Ecoboost and the Ecodiesel to 1000 to 1 ratio and both of these trucks will climb that hill, but very slowly.

Remember in the old days when medium trucks were powered by GMC over head valve inline sixes, Chrysler inline flathead sixes, and Ford flathead V-8's. It was gearing that allowed them to carry heavy loads.

Now take that big rig and limit it to a three speed transmission, like most older cars and pickups, and it will probably top out at around 15 MPH.

have not heard of any issues, other than the random oil cooler going south. The big thing that was the late Mustangshawn had posted up a video telling people to look at their coolers and "if you see this" your cooler is leaking. The "leaking oil" people were seeing was assembly lube for the oil rings. A few early 2014 engines ended up with cut o-rings during assembly so VM started brushing on a light lube to keep the o-rings from getting cut, noting more. There is a TSB about it as after his video the sheep went bats%%t crazy demanding a now oil cooler lol.

The other issue is the intercooler freezing during winter where temps are 20*F or below. You have to run a winter (grill) cover anytime the times are at or below 20*F.
