Go long or go home:) I have a Ram 2500 LB CTD. 1st long bed in over 20 yrs. Absolutely love it. Had a TT and now a 5'er. No slider needed. Haul 8' ply with the tailgate up. Once in awhile it's a bit tricky parking both towing and empty. But nothing like a little challenge once in awhile.
Don't have any comparison for towing between the 6.5-8' bed, but logic would suggest the 8' would be more stable. May not be noticeable though unless in high winds or emergency maneuvers.
