The S/B is now called a standard bed. We bought a S/B because we wanted a full 4 door truck and they were too long for or old garage with an 8 ft bed. Since we don't have, nor want, a large hard size camper the S/B works well for us. We tow a horse trailer and often room to park or turn around is at a premium.
For us the "tip the scale" deciding factor was that we like the looks of a S/B over a L/B. We have never been in a situation where we wished we had a l/b but to each his own and buy what works best for you.
