The newest generation of 3/4 ton trucks are 100% capable of towing 90 plus percent of big fifth wheels. Nothing wrong with too much truck but there is also nothing wrong with having enough truck.
The newest 3/4 ton trucks can run circles in most cases around the last generation of dually trucks from a load and overall performance standpoint.
My 1999 F350 Dually had a GVWR of 11,600 ish...the truck sitting empty on the scales with a full tank of gas and me, my wife, and my boys was at about 8,000 lbs. so I had around 3,600 lbs of payload after my family was loaded up.
This truck was a base XL truck of hauling awesomeness. No Diesel, no 4x4, no lariat. I imagine with these extras the Dually would have been well under 3000 lbs of payload after my family was in the truck.
Thanks!
