My 1999 F350 Dually had a GVWR of 11,600 ish...the truck sitting empty on the scales with a full tank of gas and me, my wife, and my boys was at about 8,000 lbs. so I had around 3,600 lbs of payload after my family was loaded up.
This truck was a base XL truck of hauling awesomeness. No Diesel, no 4x4, no lariat. I imagine with these extras the Dually would have been well under 3000 lbs of payload after my family was in the truck.
Thanks!

The 2014 3500 SRW diesel in this test has an 11,700# GVWR and just a hair under 4000# payload.
Thank you for making the point with real world numbers! :)
That's exactly right from both of you!
Now, my base Dually was uncomfortable to travel in and it had less than 300 hp and about 405 ish lb ft of tq.
I handled the trailer good but it was a bear to live with day in and day out. The trucks in this test are so much better IN EVERY SINGLE WAY than my Dually in 99 it's almost unfair to compare them.
Thanks!
Jeremiah
