Ram 2500 tire pressure
Hi again folks!
Well, our shopping took us back to a 2013 Ram Longhorn 2500 diesel. We test drove another one from another dealer, and this time we liked it much better. For some reason the ride was better and the stereo much better - we don't know why! We were about to walk away from Ram based on our first test drive, but couldn't quite yet - we just like the look and features of the truck so we thought to give it another try.
On an earlier post when I asked questions about the "Big Three" in this class, a couple of you Ram owners pointed to the fact that when under a light load, one can reduce the tire pressure for a better ride. Sure enough it's in the manual (I downloaded a copy from the Ram site), as well as on a special sticker on the door frame (rears can be reduced from 70 to 40 lbs). Yet the other manufacturers don't seem to have this(???).
When I made the comment to the salesman he didn't know about this fact, and in fact recommended against it - even though I pointed it out on the sticker (we checked that 2nd truck's tire pressure and the rears were at 70 lbs). The salesman has a friend in the tire business and from what he understands dropping tire pressure by nearly half cannot be good for the life of the tire at all. I have to admit he made sense.
So my question:
Does anyone drop the rear tire pressure from 70 lbs when not towing, to the recommended 40 lbs, or some other pressure for a better ride? What has been your experience and your thoughts as Ram owners of this 'light load' concept?
Many thanks in advance!
