One thing I learned from people I know that decided to "tune" their diesels. The motor is capable of much more power than the truck is rated for. It seems the motor is not the weak point in the drive train. Everyone I know that has tuned the motor has replaced the tranny soon after. The motor doesn't pull the load by itself. The towing capacity is determined by the weakest point in the system.
