Ram 3500 (6.4 Hemi)3.73 vs 4.10 with TC

I'm looking at this truck on the dealer lot crew cab short box. I know the rear axle makes a difference towing but with a truck camper should I pass this truck up and wait or order a 4.10....I would be looking to buy a lighter lance camper such as the 650 with a wet weight of under 2000 pounds.

  • Thanks for your responses so far…Maybe somebody can help with this question… According to the ram specs the gvwr only changes by 30 lbs between various configurations of the CC , 4x4 short box 6.4. So it appears that the rear axle ratio does NOT effect payload significantly!?

Avoid morning after sickness, a gasser will need a 4.10...
  • We have a 2014 2500 with the 6.4 Hemi and 4.10s with a Camplite 6.8 and usually tow a trailer with a Can Am Commander or our Sea Doo, and have been very happy with the performance. Mileage, well it's not a Prius, but it has plenty of grunt. Overall, we are happy with the combo.
  • I don't think you will be happy with the 4.10, it will certainly pull better but gas mileage will go south and you will notice the higher engine speed on the highway.
