6.4 Hemi w/3.73

It tows fine. I have had this truck since May and tow a 7500lb tt, avg between 8-11 mpg towing and up to about 14-16 mt, I have 7500 miles on the truck with 3800 miles of towing( I love that it keeps track of the towing miles on the evic screen). It does like to rev on the the hills but I believe that is what it was designed to do and it still maintains speed ok , also for a 3/4 ton truck it rides fairly civilized empty for daily driving, I also always use 87 octane and have no issues, overall I am pretty satisfied so far, I think it's great alternative for those that do not need or want a diesel.

My concern with lower ratios would be the initial pull from a stop when at full loaded weight on a steep grade. Once you get rolling, it is less of a concern. Those guys that have steep driveways or favorite camping spot with some grade are the ones that will suffer at slow speed without the 4.10's.

Although I could have dropped cruising RPM by choosing the 4.10's in my CTD powered 5500, I chose the 4.44's to get me that extra torque multiplication without having to drop into 4wd low range. On the other hand, I did not choose the 4.88's since I do long highway miles that would not be pleasant even at my typical 60-65 mph with that ratio.

2014 3500 SRW w 3:73. I tow a 11k 5er without a problem. No I'm not winning races, but it works for me. I get 9-11 mpgs while towing the 5er. I also have dragged my nephew's 12k mini excavator a few times on the hilly roads in upstate NY, truck handles it fine. Unloaded around town I see 14-15, highway 18-19. Towing my mowing equipment I get 11-12, lots of short trips keeping mpg's lower on my mowing route.
Just shy of 30k, and couldn't be happier.

The truck has plenty of power for our trailer. We spend a lot of time in flat lands, but I have towed with it through the Ozarks and Smokies and never had a problem with it lacking power, or struggling to get up the grades in those areas. 7,500 pounds isn't as much as many people tow, however, so others might have a different experience.

Overall, we love this truck. It has 3K of payload, allowing me to carry a bed full of firewood while towing, which I do in the spring and fall. It's in a different league from the Silverado 1500 with the 5.3 and 3.42 that we towed the same trailer with previously.

I would have gone with the 4.10 if I could have found one, but there were none around me. We also aren't going to tow anything heavier than 10,000 pounds loaded, so I feel fine with the truck I have.

I have a 2014, 2500, 4x4, Crew, short bed with the 6.4 and 3.73. I tow about 9k loaded and i have no issues at all with the combo. I don't town in the mountains, just around Ky and then to Florida once a year. I get about 7-9 towing, 13 around town and up to 18 on the highway.

On the 2014's, 87 octane was recommended and in 2015+, they switched the recommendation to 89 octane. I have started running 89 octane and it makes the engine run much smoother and i see a slight increase in fuel economy.

However, I would rather have had the 4.10's if they were easily found. The only way I have seen to get them is to order a truck with them.

I tow ocasionally with mine but its only 5-6k lbs. it does it quite easily. Mpg drops significantly when towing but my experiance is all newer vehicles do that. They have gotten pretty good at making em get good mpg empty and the hit comes when towing.

With a 6 speed transmission I doubt you will find much difference in performance towing at speed between a 3.73 and 4.10.

Acceleration from a stand still yes. But after you get past 1st gear probably not.

Gearing does not make more power.

Our 2011 Ram SLT 2500 w/CTD always returns 12 to 14 mpg with our 2012 Cougar 8500 lb. when towing as in last weeks trip to Asheville NC. Also around 21mpg empty. Not to bad for a $31000 vehicle with 37000 miles purchased this year. EB alone makes it an incredible vehicle.

Never mind. I enjoy a good debate, but it's a holiday weekend.
