I don't have much brand loyalty. I have owned Dodges, Fords, Chevys, Hondas, etc. The two Caravans we had but developed transmission problems before we sold them. Some of the comments I have seen here and on other camper forums regarding the Ram shifting under load has caught my attention...you can't experience that on a test drive at a dealership.
I usually disregard one or two complaints about a given vehicle but if I see the same complaint repeatedly, I take note. Some common issues just take a long time to manifest (GMs rusting brake lines or weak ABS module soldiering joints for example).
I guess I am partial to GM because I've had 4 Silverados over the years and to me they are easy to work on. I do minor repairs on the F350s, F550s and all the police cars (Explorer and Crown Vics) for the city I work for and I don't find them as mechanically friendly. The F series we have are all diesel and much more difficult to work on...it's almost like Ford built the truck around the engine.
