As far as the oil, the heaters only heat up the anti-freeze and not all of it unless you have it plugged in all night. The oil is all in the pan, I do not think any heat from the block will get to the oil. It will help keep the upper half and pistons warm to add in starting along with adding heat well some heat to help with defrosting the windows.
Actually cold oil flowing thru the warmer block and head will warm up on contact.
