I believe some of us have been in OP situation, and some clearly have not. Yes there are twisting hair pin curves which require speeds of 10-15 MPH with a 7% or greater grade. Yes chances are you will drop out of RPM range in second gear and it will downshift to low, which someone pointed out to me today :W would turn off the EB because of the TC being unlocked.
BTDT thanks to Marty and a few other times. Although my old Ram had the 4 speed I would think the newer 6 speed would handle the EB better. Taller gears should also help.
Someone or a bunch of you mention "red line". I don't know for certain but I would think the Ram's would be programed not to let it over speed your engine. Our current RV the Allison will allow up to 300 RPM over the speed rating of the Cummins speed limit of 2200. If you don't slow it down with service brakes it will upshift.
Clearly from owning the Ram for 10 years and now this new camper the most effective exhaust braking occurs at the close to max engine speed. ( Just not in first gear :B)
These new vehicles are made to not self destruct themselves IMO.
In closing did I mention the Allison is outstanding. I can't believe how advanced these things are. They tell electronically how your fluid level is, the condition of your ATF, when you need service, temp's. Amazing and all the while with nice soft shifts that the driver didn't even knew happened.
Downside is I can't hear my EB any longer, it's downstream about 40' or so :( but the DW likes it.
