I do not think that the torque has much to do with mileage at similar speeds and use. Our new 3500 SRW 4x4 gets similar mileage or better than my 2001.5 at higher cruise speeds empty. Towing the mileage is similar or slightly less at the same speeds, I weighs in at 1000-1500 more.

Agree, I had a Chevy 05 & 07.5 3500 Dually's with crew cab, Longbed, 4X4, D/A, as well as a 2010 and 2012 Ram 3500DRW, crew cab, longbed, 4X4's with Cummins and 68RFE and 4.10..and now own an even HEAVIER 13 with the Aisin...and THIS truck, towing or empty...gets as good as, IF NOT BETTER MPG, than any of the above...and I "towed heavy" with all of them..and over the same terrain..
