Ram Pucks

I'm getting close to pulling the trigger on a slightly used 3500 Ram. A few of the ones I'm interested in do not have the fifth wheel puck system in the bed. Is this something I could get installed at the dealer - and would it include the in-bed harness plug?

I know some on here have done this themselves, but I'm not that adventurous.

  • The RAM in bed wiring kit is a Curt product. The hole saw to drill the 4 big holes is not an item available at box stores. I had to order it online. Four hour job working by myself. Chris
  • You may want to check out the cost of a B&W Turnball install and a Companion RVK3500 Hitch. You'll still get a clean bed without rails only one hole needed to be cut into bed and then one for your pigtail plug in the bed sidewall. B&W website has a list of installers just plug in your zipcode.
  • The 7 way is an easy one. They have a for lack of a better term "T" plug for the existing one. You take the existing one apart a couple of tabs and it unplugs the two haves of the connector on the back of the plug, plug in the new T pieces and now you have a I think it is a 7 foot long pigtail to put in the bed or wherever you want. You will have to drill the hole in the side of the bed. When I did mine easy peasy 30 minutes tops to install/add the plug.

Obviously Ram makes one but so do others like Curt
  • The kit comes with a template but If doing it yourself the main issue is not over cutting the holes even though you have a template. The 7 way is another separate item. The dealer or possibly other trailer or rv places may also have experience doing it.
