I don't understand this protectionism argument. Between my wife and I we are on our 7th new vehicle- meaning we don't overlook things because there's a few miles on them. Most recently her 2nd Explorer assembled in Chicago. Otherwise 1 1500 from Warren, 2 F150s from Deerborne and 2 Ram 2500s from Saltillo Mexico. The 2 from Mexico have never had the crooked panels, leaking windshields, missing door seals, broken headlight assemblies or undertorqued wheel lugs like the others had. Yes- I said it. For fit and finish and quality, I have been more satisfied with my 2 HD Rams assembled in Mexico than with the other 5 assembled in US vehicles we have had.
I think some guys seem to confuse quality with geography. The pyramids weren't made in the USA, nor the Aztec temples but look at them now!
This isn't a dig at those that like to support local jobs and local economy, but please- call it what it is. Don't veil it with the "quality" argument because it just isn't factual.
Heck, there's a lot of products made in Canada and US that I *avoid* because they're junk.
