Ram questions

Well with almost 200,000 miles on my 2006 2500. I started thinking about a new truck. My current Dodge has the 6 speed manual and I thought I was done with manuals but I noticed that Ram still offers the manual. Does anyone know the horsepower torque and towing of the 2017 Rams equipped with a manual.

  • Due to gear multiplication, the 650 lb-ft Cummins with the G56 is actually putting down considerably more torque than a SRW 900 lb-ft Cummins with the Aisin in first and second gear. In third, the G56 is still putting down more torque, but not much more. The Aisin is only putting down slightly more torque in fourth through sixth.

  • I had same concern going from manual to automatic.... however you should make sure and get the tow haul package with the engine brake. with both working together you will not miss your manual tranny :)

Well, you will miss it but.. it will be a happy miss
  • Like Green728 said the ability to manually shift plus the addition of a really good exhaust brake makes the manual a thing of the past.

I think the numbers are 350/650 with the manual, 370/800 with the 68RFE and 385/900 with the Aisin.

I believe IdaD is correct. With today's auto trans and the ability to manually shift gears, TH mode, and EB, why would you want the manual instead out of curiosity? I don't see the benefit of it with the reduced HP and TQ that comes along with it and all the new features mentioned above. Again, just curious.

Personal preference - but you are right with the derating of the power for the manual why bother - except I do a lot of mountain driving and I always liked the control I had with manual.
