There is also the issue of resale. I had people breaking down the door when I sold my 5sp manual Toy Forerunner years ago.

Some of us just like to shift for ourselves.

Your 06 must of had the EB added. They didn't come from the factory with them until the 6.7's with their VGT arrived.

My brother in law has driven manual Rams for years as his work trucks. He did not want an autotransmission but had no choice when looking. He has a 2011 Longhorn with the 68 RFE and is very very happy with it. Pulling in the mountains is no problem with the EB and tow haul engaged.

Wow you guys are talking me into the manual. What is the clutch - I hope they improved on that POS duel fly wheel shite that was in my 06.

With the manual, I'm told your exhaust brake works right down 0 rpm or close to that.

With the 68RFE the EB cuts out at ~1100rpm and it needs higher rpms to come back on.

So for low speed descents, like on windey roads with 20mph hairpin turns, the EB works better with the manual. The EB with the 68RFE will cut out if at low speeds if you are not careful.

Both are standard on the 6.7L I6 Cummins.

If you are going to stay with a manual tranny, then I guess you don't need it. If going with automatic INSTEAD OF MANUAL, Then engine brake plus tow haul package and you will not miss the manual tranny or at least I haven't.

I thought the manual had the engine brake - my 2006 has one.

My 2001 5.9 3500 did not have engine brake. I added one a year or so before I upgraded to a 2014 5500 6.7 automatic which has engine brake plus tow haul package.
