Rancho el rey

Well. First off I'm new here and to truck bed campers. I've recently purchased a 1979 rancho el Rey camper. It weighs roughly 2100 lbs dry. I have a 2008 dodge 2500 mega cab 6.7 srw. I have only brought the camper home. No trips yet. My main question is that I'm planning on adding airbags to my truck to handle the weight. My payload says 1670lbs. 5000lbairbags should be fine. I have a 6.4ft bed so this camper hangs over quit a bit. With the tailgate down. The grey water tank pretty much hangs out the back(maybe 2ft past the end of the tailgate). My main questions are will this setup be ok down he road? No off reading. Just highway and canyon roads. And, what's the best tiedowns?

Is this an 8.5-9' floor camper? Most of the Rancho El Rey's I've seen over the years were 10-11.5' floor units, which is vastly too long for the extra short Mega Cab short-bed.

I would be inclined to agree.

  • I used to have a 2006 RAM 2500 MegaCab CTD and had ALL of the mods - Ride Rite Air Bags, Big Wig Sway Bar, TorkLift Stable Loads. Out of all of the mods I made, the TorkLift Stable Loads were the best and most effective mod for load carrying, sway control and handling. I wish I had put them on first rather than last, I could have skipped all of the other mods.
