Raptor EB on the Ike

Did anyone else notice the engine oil temp was pushing 240*F or so during the test...in cold weather? Wow. Check out about 14:45 or so time stamp. Best use good oil in the Raptor. What does it call for? I'm assuming full synthetic.

Raptor vs Rebel IKE

After watching the whole video...looks like the Rebel/Hemi oil temp was about the same. :?

It didn't look about the same to me. At 30:42 of the video, the Hemi looks to be at 264F while the Raptor never seems to hit 240F and staying around 235F.

Wow, I missed that in the video. I saw 251* or something, hard to see on the small screen I watched it on.

My 6.4L Hemi never got anywhere near that high. Maybe the 2500 has a larger engine oil cooler? Guess it would make sense.

Fake sound = definition of a poser truck.

    Pretty Bizarre
  • Is this fake engine sound an option?

Why would one pay for it?

I would think that hearing one's engine is an important part of monitoring your drive.

They do it on some sports cars as well. Some want to hear the sound of power, even at the expense of falsely generating it.

    Lexus LFA
    Mustang

    To name a few.

Haha, yeah it’s a real thing as silly as it may sound!
But if you’ve ever heard the exhaust noise from the south end of an Ecoboost Raptor you’d understand why! It sounds like a cross between a Honda Accord and a wet fart!

But who cares if it’ll spank every other truck out there?

A quality conventional oil should be okay at 240 degrees, but I would probably rather have a synthetic. Mobil 1 boasts that they work up to 500 degrees. I couldn't easily find temp ratings for other oils.

I'd have to imagine that as technologically advanced as modern engines are, they know when to defuel themselves to stay away from dangerous situations. As long as you maintain factory specs for fluids, those temps shouldn't cause any concerning issues.

I remember when my department started getting 5.7 Hemi engines in our cruisers. Those Hemis would burn HOT. We'd be on a traffic stop and you could feel the heat cranking as you walked passed. I thought it would be a problem, but 11 years later I haven't heard of any premature engine failures in our fleet.
  • I haven’t watched the whole video, but I’ll say that those temps on that pass are nothing unusual.

My 2011 Yukon XL Denali runs 250* plus pulling my 7000 pound boat up the pass.

Even my RAM will run above 225* pulling my 12k 5er.
