After my granddaughter and her husky stayed in my TT while her husband was deployed, I also had black tank odor. I checked all the inline drain vents and cleaned them still had odor. Went up on top and removed the vent cap and used a snake to check for clogs. The vent pipe was clogged with TP. after clearing the clog and installing a new cap I used my pressure washer to clean any left over material in the tank. After that operation my gage started to work again.
