People don't regularly tow at maximum RPM's. To do so would be horribly inefficient for gas or diesel. Big block gas engines certainly develop plenty of power to get loads up the hill. I had no problem with the pulling power of my big block. I had a problem with the fuel efficiency which resulted from tapping into that power when needed. With the diesel, I'm able to tow at reasonable speeds up significant grades, without having to watch the tank gauge drop by the minute.
