Thanks for the report. I just finished a 170mile leg on our current camping trip with our new 38' 8800lbs (dry) (10,900 GVWR) TT. I'm pulling with a 2500 diesel though (for reasons I can tell you if you want to know).
As I'm sure you have gathered, there is much sage advice on this forum. Everyone is speaking from their own experiences and/or info gathered over the years. We are all here to gather info, conduct research.. to help us make better decisions/solve problems, and your input is very valuable.
Some will say go for it, "you'll be fine", and others live by always staying within the envelope of specifications. The thing that sucks is that you can think you have all the math right, only to find out afterwards you bought the wrong truck, or wrong TT. Having to redo either/both of those purchases is very painful...hence many around here suggest to error on the side of extra towing/payload/weight capacity, vs living near the limits.
It sounds like you feel confident about your current decision, and that your current setup works for you, albiet as you admit, you have a total of a few days of towing experience under your belt....vs many here who have been towing for decades.
Technology does change, and trucks are able to do more and more, year after year, but at the end of the day, its all about mass, friction, and power...you can't fight physics.
Hope you get many enjoyable camping trips with your set up! I have a new set up (new TV and TT) and want to share my experiences as much as possible, for the hopeful benefit of others. Likewise, I'm looking forward to hearing more reports as you gather more and more experience with your new rig.
