Mine is always preloaded forward of the coupler. I set my chocks, put the TV in neutral then park, lower the jack and the tension is released.
If I'm real lazy I just keep my finger on the raise button until the lift pressure is enough to overcome the preload pressure (spoiled with the power jack), but when it releases everything moves a bit uncomfortably for me.
The best solution is to release the pressure by putting the TV in neutral. In some cases I actual have to put it in reverse and ease off the brake slowly to release it.
As a side note: I always make sure the wheels are chocked AND the chains stay connected until it is released and the weight is on the jack.
