On our system, when you light up the control panel, the water heater switch is second from the left at the bottom of the screen. You touch the button and it will light up a lighter color of blue and show the words: Propane, Electric, and Both. Tap on one of them, and what you pushed will begin. If all is working properly, you can leave it alone and it will function that way till you touch the panel again at which time the light will go darker and the heater will shut off.
