as the previous poster pointed out, that pump being powered up wouldnt burn it out and your campground source pressure was likely high enough and of sufficient volume to prevent your pump from running at all when you turned your faucets on.
if you havent tested the pump by running water without being connected to the campground source that should be your first thing to check ( make sure you have water in your fresh water tank first).
