A few years ago we had a Tacoma V6 with tow package and towed a 2012 Heartland Edge 21 foot trailer weighing just under 4,000 pounds loaded. We used a WD hitch and had electric brakes on the trailer. In the hills of New England, the Tacoma did fine as far as power, braking, and comfort were concerned--expect about 10 MPG when towing though. Since the truck is light, when compared to 1/2 tons, it got a little spooky on very windy days at turnpike speeds and when big trucks passed us.
