I agree that a Class B or truck slide-in camper would work better in your situation. I have a tiny camper, and many times have had the motel's permission to stay on the lot when I have a function there, i.e. seminar, wedding, workshop, etc. I also average 16 mpg while towing, but I rarely drive over 62 mph.
