Really would appreciate your advice on this unique camper

I believe that someone else posted some questions about them on here before, to primitive for me but I can see them appealing to some. I like the look of the wood, and the design.
I’m kind of surprised I’ve never seen one in person on the road or at a RV show as it’s built just an hour or so from my home.

my lake house is cedar sided. hate it. will replace with vinyl siding if and when.

Beautiful product! Cedar is one of the lightest woods still strong enough for structure. It won't darken over time if properly cared for...stick with clear UV protected finish. You could certainly add jacks or use portable jack stands, as many people use for their campers. If you are of the mind that the camper is just a very nice place to sleep and keep stuff, that is you intend to do the majority of cooking outdoors and use a porta-potty, etc. And you're fine with coolers, this unit is comparable to more mainstream looking shell type units. It's all about the aesthetics. I also don't see why it would be any more susceptible to vibration than an older camper with alumimum siding...paper thin on a wood frame. Just depends on your tastes. I'm sure the guy will give you some references to investigate.

I cannot see the framing or the windows or the roof holding up over time with use on the highway. There is a lot of bouncing and without proper reinforcement, a lot of potential for flexing.

A lot of this type of camper have been built over the years but placed on a flatbed truck so the bed was rigid and provided a "foundation" for the camper.

For simple get a used Six-Pac camper. Mine had no fridge, no furnace, no toilet or shower, but it was light enough to haul around on a Toyota 4WD mini truck with a tiny 135HP engine.

and want to go back to a simple and easy way to get into the back country. I don't need many amenities. I would get a Toyota Tacoma to haul it around...

I am totally in favor of these handsome, innovative approaches to truck camping. I would think that there could be some changes down the road to allow for more storage, cooking, heating and other conveniences. At the reasonable prices I see, it opens up the TC experience to a lot more folks. And thats a very good thing.

In my opinion, the tendency towards multi-slide TCs carried on dually trucks that altogether cost close to $100K should be balanced at the lower end with thrifty, light TCs that allow for a whole different segment of the population to enjoy our lifestyle.

One thing I note in the photos is a tie down system that is not connected to the frame. I don't think that is a good idea. Otherwise, I'd say go for it and send us a trip report.

What a beautiful unit. Reminds me of the truck camper used in the movie Foul Play. As far as maintaining the cedar, it should not require any more effort than the typical RV fiberglass box. Wonder if any history has been developed on the resale value of this type of construction.

I'm not sure how well that would hold up. I'd consider a used known brand like a Northern Lite nonbasement or Four Wheel Camper popup for mostly off road use.

I went to website and there was the basic unit as you picture then there was a list of custom stuff that could be added, of course that would be in the cab over unit. Then again, I've slept since viewing it and at my age..... Will check my net history and look it up again.

OMG! That's my dream camper -- 25 years ago.
Convenience, comfort and entertainment (beyond getting "warm" together), are more my priorities, now.
What's the roof material/construction? Any idea?
I should show this to my 22-year-old God-son. Heck, I gotta saw and a drill. It ain't rocket surgery. A little hand-rubbed Teak Oil would help keep him in shape and be a nice finish.
How-the-Devil he gets it on and off his truck, and ties it down, are his problems. Brute force and ignorance might be offered as suggestions.
