Rear Camera

Wireless back up cameras haven't gotten very good comments in the past when used with TC's. Electronic stuff seems to improve all the time so who is having success with wireless these days?

I assume you then run your clearance/running lights all the time then.

  • This one works very well
    4U Camara

and is relativly inexpensive. Goes for 225 for camara and display. I like mine.
  • I cobbled an inexpensive system together using parts from ebay a couple years ago. I stuck with 1.2ghz in hopes of minimizing interference from the 2.4ghz transmitters. I mounted the transmitters inside a cabinet which puts them right behind the truck's rear window and the receiver is above the headliner in the cab. Maybe 4 feet between them and nothing but wood, filon, glass, and whatever the headliner is made of to block the signal. Should work great, right? I still have problems with interference at times. Generally brief but annoying when one of the spots is where you're parked in a rest area. I'm currently leaning toward bringing a cable out the rear of the headliner and hard wiring the cameras. I already use a window boot so that's not a bad option. Although, I do wonder if those 'Direct from China' radios could be part of my problem... :)
  • My (expensive) Voyager WVOS511 wireless system has worked flawlessly on my Arctic Fox 990/F-350 CC.
  • Seems a lot of cams are still using 2.4ghz analog transmission, which is going to be worse today than it was 15 years ago when they started... everyone and their sister uses WiFi these days, or bluetooth, which are both on the same band as wireless cameras.

I've been looking for an affordable DIGITAL transmission camera setup, but haven't had much luck. I am working on weather-proofing some WiFi cameras for using on my RV... a bit more complicated to use, but should be less prone to interference and they're cheap.
