Rear differential covers
I’m getting ready to have the rear diff serviced and am considering adding an aluminum cover with heat sink. Have you gone this route? Does it make any significant difference? I have 155,000 miles...

They do. All AAM axles (GM and RAM) come with a finned aluminum housing.

And they needed it. Before they used these covers, they would cook the paint off the old stamped sheet metal parts.

You mean when did they start using the finned cover? That was with the first year of the HO 6.7, which was somewhere around 2013 when they went to a bigger ring gear in the RAM (not sure what year). Have no idea what year GM started using it, probably about the same time.
BTW, I added it to mine. I was afraid the rusted metal cover would rust through.
