Rear hubcap on Ford dually

I'm having one heck of a time getting that plastic hubcap off a rear dually, 2008 Ford pickup. It's one of those snap-on kind. I yanked one off on the drivers side, but having a hell of a time with this other one. Have any of you had this trouble? Is there a special tool that you use to pop them off, because I don't seem to have one. Thanks for any suggestions.

Wish I had your crank :-). My 05 has a "kit" under the rear seat on the driver's side.

  • Offset screwdriver fits into the notch at cap base. I actually use a horse hoof pick. At least that's what works on my 01.
  • I use a slide hammer to remove my rear hub caps. It's the craziest design-even the tire iron hook won't pull out a rear hubcap. I fashioned a hook by grinding down a bolt that fit on the end of my slide hammer. Works great.
  • I haven't tried to remove the ones on my 2006 but the lug wrench has a small hook on the end which I think is to help in removing the hubcaps. Take a look and see if that might help you.
  • Yeah, it's a snap on for sure. With it being recessed in a dually, I'm having a tough time getting something behind it to pry it off. I may have to work on improvising some kind of tool for it tomorrow? Just curious what others may have done.
  • Are you sure it's a snap on, some of them have fake chrome 'lugnuts' that have to be unscrewed. It takes the same size wrench as the real ones which are under the wheel cover.
