Rebuild is moving forward! pj

David at Southend RV Repair is doing a fantastic job on my camper.

I have posted some pictures on my Facebook page showing what's involved in putting new Filon on a camper.

The pictures start when the cabover is striped to a gaping monster hole.

The shop changed their name. Used to be Lentz's RV.

I suspect the original owner may have sold / retired. When they were still on the Mtn Highway in Spanaway (Elk Plain), it had a feeling he was prepping to retire.

I just read every word again... I remember the pictures thank goodness.

I spotted a couple of things that pj had problems with that I don't seem to have.

My Lance 1161 has been in the same shop for the last 7 weeks that PJ and Harold used in Lakewood WA.

My camper has a lot of the same hidden damages that a lot of you aren't aware that you are having. PJ is posting mine on the Lance Owners Association website. He could post pictures there. I hope to post my rebuild on RV.net when I get all of the pictures this fall.

Chet's 1161 Rebuild

Capt PJ is posting it.

This is the third Lance 1161 that Southend RV Repair have done in a row. They are very good. We are about at the rebuild stage after 7 weeks.

Steve "Subconsulting" and his wife Sally delivered my camper from Tennessee to Washington fox us... I'm pretty sure you'll see more on that subject on the Truck Camper forum.... soon.

This build thread should be in the sticky section, we had an AF 1150 for 4 years and I learned more about campers in this single build than I did in the time we had one.

My Lance 1161 is on the way to it's own rebuild job... the filon is falling off but we like the camper so well that its worth repairing. The inside is in prefect shape, the many modifications still function, and it's a boondockers dream... it can be totally used with the slide in.

PJ's and Harold's camper repairs have impressed us so much that we'll be the third of three in a row.

Harold's camper rebuild has been posted in detail on the Lance Owner Associations website. It is listed as "another 1161 rebuild"

My rebuild will be listed as "Chet's 1161 rebuild"

If you have a camper you love with a filon skin get ready... get in line.

Like many of us with 14 or 15 year old truck campers... and other RVs of course... we know they need help. The twisting and torquing accumulates as we pile on the miles... and pile them on we do.

And so... yes... I am drawn to PJs thread.

HappiJac, how I use it.

The amount of movement while the centering is happening is very slight...WHY? because you have to be very close to stop on just to get the TC between the bed posts at the rear.

I added the gray top plastic to allow the TC to not hang up on bar if I had to have it higher due to uneven ground etc.

Side skid plates on the aft tub bump-out.

It rubs on the plastic (slippery stuff) skid plate attached to the bed tailgate post.

Bevel front edge to make it easy to slide past...it only has to move maybe a 1/2" so there is very little issue with the aft jacks. The tolerance of the TC tub and the bed are really close...so you have to be good when backing in...And I am GOOD!! rolleyes

Only mirrors and back window and the molded line on top of the DEEZEE mat help get it right...I DO HOPE I HAVEN'T STARTED A LOADING POST HIJACK!!! ack laughing
