And then there was Ford. Talk about "feet dragging".
If you own a 2011 or later Ford F-150 that's equipped with an EcoBoost engine, listen up. The U.S. government has opened up an investigation into F-150s that rely on the EcoBoost V-6 engine for motivation, as some have been reported to lose power while accelerating. In all, the government's investigation covers around 400,000 F-150 models made from 2011 to 2013. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that the problem at hand usually occurs when it's raining or humid out. No accidents or injuries have been reported stemming from this issue but the NHTSA has received 95 reports concerning EcoBoost engine failures. Those who filed reports with the NHTSA said that the problem occurred when accelerating hard, such as when passing someone on the highway. Making matters worse, the NHTSA has outed Ford for advising dealerships on how to fix this issue but not telling the affected owners. If you're unfamiliar with Ford's EcoBoost engine, it relies on turbochargers and advanced fuel injection to achieve torque and power numbers that are closer to engines with a bigger displacement. For those of you keeping track at home, the EcoBoost V-6 engine application used in the F-150 is rated at 365 horsepower, 80 more ponies than the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado's all-new V-6. Ford designed the EcoBoost to achieve similar power to that of a 6.0-liter or bigger engine while still keeping fuel economy figures high. Ford has already been sued by people who have allegedly seen this EcoBoost engine fail firsthand, too. Cases in both Louisiana and Ohio federal court have been heard and claim the EcoBoost engine loses power while accelerating and is therefore defective.
