2014 or 2015 Ford Expedition

The 2007-2014 Expy does not have select shift like the 2009-2010 F-150 than many people complain about while towing an RV. 6-10 months from now, the 2015 Expy will also be sold for $10k+ off.

Ford greatly changed its ecoboost engine and now it produces a lot more power but the fuel economy is not much better than the 5.0L V-8.

I would expect to be able to save $8,000 or more on a 2014 model sitting on a dealer's lot at this time of the year with 2015 vehicles starting to arrive. The question is whether the 2015 would provide any real benefits that would justify spending $8,000 more to buy it.

Actually, with the gas prices going lower, the larger vehicles will start to become more popular again. Consumers get lulled into the mindset that the gas prices will be low for a long time and that they can now afford a vehicle like this. Next summer when the gas prices have risen back up to "normal" these same people will be "B"ing that they cant afford it anymore and want to trade it in on a more economical vehicle. Then they won't understand why the trade in value has gone down....I saw that happen SEVERAL times.

This is true. I just bought a new 2014 Expedition Limited last Friday. They came off sticker $11k without even asking. The 2015 is just what is stated above and no lower. I wanted the 5.4 because after buying a Ford 6.0 diesel in Jan of 03 I said I will never again buy a first year vehicle with a new engine.(I know Ecoboost has been around a while now but not in the Expedition) The 5.4 engine has plenty of power to pull a 5,800 lb boat and that's all I needed. I will give the new turbo engine about 5 years and see how they are holding up then maybe get one. What I saved wipes out the drive off the lot depreciation and will buy some gas too. Bought my 08 Dodge Ram in March of 09 and saved $16k off sticker. $27k between two vehicles is reason enough for me to wait until the end of a model year to buy new.

we decided the Expedition was just too big. My wife decided we could live with a slightly smaller and lighter trailer, so instead of 6000lbs we will be around 5000lbs so are looking at a Jeep Grand Cherokee or Dodge Dakota. still deciding on TT

Curious as to how you resolved the question about the 2015 Expedition as we are in the exact same position a few months later. We have seen the 2015 Expedition and have yet to decide on either the TV or the TT. New to RVing and a new member to RV.net so all responses are welcome.

You will be much better off towing with a turbo'd vehicle at altitude than a standard motor... Very little power loss...

Too bad you can't get a diesel in that expi....

I work for my money and don't like to throw it around. I bought a new 2011 truck late in 2011 for under $42,000 that had I bought the new 2012 would have cost me over $57,000 for the same exact configuration. Only an idiot or a Wallstreet bankster using other people's money would have bought the 2012 truck. instead.

If I was going to buy a 5.4 Expedition, I'd buy a 2010 model, since they haven't changed much at all, and save a lot more than 10 grand.

Oh, and I seriously doubt anyone is going to pay MSRP for a 2015 expedition, Large SUV's just aren't that popular anymore, and every 2015 Expedition on the lot will have the ecoboost equipped. So the savings on a 2014 vs. 2015 will probably be more on the order of 3 grand.

The one with the 3.73 gears - better going up grades, better for passing slow trucks, better acceleration for merging with traffic. And be sure to get the factory heavy duty trailer towing package.

That is kind of a tough one, as far as the price tradeoff -- I doubt you're gonna see anywhere near that discount on a '15 EB, at least not this year.

The 5.4 is a very old engine. It is also a solid, tried and true performer that will probably get the job done in solid, if unspectacular fashion. That said, after owning and towing w/ the EB, it is no contest to me -- I will take the EB every day of the week.
