Agree 'somewhat' with Les, but there is a disassociation in the process...
Here is what I mean...the ones making the decisions 'up front' many times do NOT
suffer the consequences for their actions/decisions
Too often, the service division gets the bill for these recalls and/or warranty costs
The up front decision makers are long gone either on another project and/or
in different jobs (inside that corp or another corp). Got their 'Attaboy' bonuses
and raises
A well run product design team will have reps from the service group(s). Not so well
run will have management ignore them...knowing that they most likely will NOT
ever suffer the consequences.
The current GM fiasco is a prime example of that and the current CEO is cleaning
house so that this won't happen again. Time will tell, as that good ol boy way
of running a corporation is ingrained...
Until upper management demands and dictates that those up front decision
makers also suffer the consequences for their decisions will this
end...better or more correctly...lessen this
I'll take that philosophy even farther...to here on this forum.
Too many won't want to hear it and only want to hear what they want to hear...
