If a strong wind ripped a new cover to shreds, it was not installed correctly. And even if it was, covering a TT is not a set it and forget it kind of thing. You have to make sure the straps are not coming loose.
I've used the same ADCO cover since my TT was new, and I don't have problems with ripping from wind, or the finish being "marred", nor have suffered from roof edge damage. It's worth the effort to me to ensure it is covered correctly, and to check on it frequently when covered.
