Recreation . Gov tip/tips

We use this site for our favorite.
Our dates fall on premium dates holidays.

So tips on ones best chance of getting our preferred site.
180 days out is our window in advance we can book
With 14 day maximum stay

Plan is count days backward 180 from 7-4-18
14 days. And call them at opening time.

Question booking on line I would assume
Is done quicker by booking as close to
0001?

Lots of large family reasons we are eager to
get particular sites,

Anyone care to share suggestions which
are within the rules an regs but are advantageous
  • I tried to book for a week, 6 month in advance as required by our State Parks, I could only book one day and would have to wait six days for the rest of the week.

So I called the info number and was told that I could only book the one day but it would reserve the remainder and add the rest as the week progressed.

It certainly is worth a call to find out.

If you plug in the desired dates now and try to book, the site will tell you the date it becomes available for booking. Set your phone up with a reminder for the day before and that date.

The day before, go in and identify the individual sites not yet booked (someone can book the site if their start date is before your start date) and put them in preference order.

On the day, punch in the dates and look at the campground map. Select your top preferred site of those available and book immediately. Have credit card, pass, etc., all at hand before you start. Don't rethink your site priorities.

That's the best you can really do.

    ^^^^^ THIS ! !

There's been prior discussion as to "what time?" I've read that the window opens at 10am EST, as well as 1 minute past midnight. I've tried the 10am thing, trying to book prior (8am MST), and not been able to book, but waiting until 10:01am EST/8:01MST has worked. And even then, when trying to book in RMNP, I had to go to my 3rd preferred spot for a specific date, as someone beat me to the 1st and 2nd choice! YES! Have everything you need to book readily in hand and type as quickly and accurately as possible!

  • You and hundreds of others will be waiting for the website clock to tick over for holiday dates.

Go through the site with some practice dates and take notes on each step. Then when it's time to gamble on the real dates you'll know how to get from beginning to end as efficiently as possible.
